This year's race was the 14th straight year NYC has hosted the ultra distance National championships. As usual there were distance specialists from around the globe competing for this world famous title. Last year's champ Phillipe Boulard from France brought one of his great countrymen Alban Cherdal with him to try to win again. Eddie Matzger was back in top form as was Luis Carlos Mejia- K2's Colombian legend.
In the end of another epic battle Eddy Matzger skating on his 100mm set up (K2 frame, Star grip wheels) was too much for the pack and Eddy took the title back from the 2003 winner Phillipe, with Luis Carlos in the third spot.
K2's Briggyette Mendez just back from winning 3 gold medals at world's was skating in her first race over 42K. Along with her teamate Kelly Martinez they were looking to survive this tough race. Kelly had a bad break when a stick lodged in her wheel and sent her flying on her back at the bottom of the big hill. At this point it was just Briggyette and Martine Charbeneau of Canada left in the lead pack and Briggyette took the win with Martine in 2nd and Kim Perkins of Team Safe in 3rd.
