September 20, 2003 Vienna, Austria Hypers Chad Hedrick wins the Vienna Grand Prix in a last minute break away and amazing final field sprint.

The fastest teams in the world consisting of teams Hyper, Salomon, Rollerblade, Fila, Roces and many more were all geared up and ready to battle for a win in the final two Grand Prix races for 2003. The race started off in the center of beautiful Vienna, Austria. The World Cup men started at 12:00pm sharp! The men would complete eight laps on a 5K course.

All teams began the race at a controlled tempo as each of the powerhouse teams waited on each other to see who would make the first move. After lap one team Rollerblade launched a minor attack with one skater attempting a flyer. The pack quickly reeled the Rollerblade skater back to the main field. After a numerous Rollerblade breakaway attempts, Hypers Diego Rosero, began launching his own of attacks. It looked as though Rosero would finally break the field during his fourth attempt until the Salomon race team took charge to reel him back to the pack.

Entering the final two laps of the race, Hypers Ernie Pena, in an attempt to contain the Roces race team, skated away from the main field pulling seven other top racers along with him. Among the breakaway skaters were Hypers Chad Hedrick and Diego Rosero. With one lap remaining and only five other skaters to compete against, Chad and Diego took complete control. Entering into the final straight away Hedrick planned to lead out teammate Diego Rosero. In the final 500meters Chad Hedrick made his move gapping Rosero and positioning himself for the win, as he would overtake Filas Frank Zschatzsch, for the marathon win.
