The 2003 Northshore Inline Marathon was an awesome race. Despite numerous falls, skaters took off in the early morning fog at Two Harbours and raced along the scenic route along the Northshore of Lake Superior. The men's race was won by JC Bcantur (Saab/ Salomon). Becantur was in a 5 skater break that was initiated early in the race. The women's race was won by Julie Brandt Glass in a field sprint. It was interesting to note that that top-4 women were all from Michigan (Glass, Theresa Cliff, Jessica Smith, and Jillleanne Rookard).
Julie Brandt Glass leads Jilleanne Rookard after the last up-hill of the Pro Women's race.
Now what about the 100mm frames? Seems like the verdict is still out. At the start line, I saw a number of skaters from Saab/ Salomon, Rollerblade, and Hyper wearing the 100mm frames and I saw many skaters on the 84mm frames. I didn't notice anyone in the race having a significant advantage over anyone else.
The pro men's lead pack sets up the sprint finish in the late stages of the race.
