The first 10k here in Manitoba was a great one, and since the actual first race on May 15 was cancelled it was no wonder that many of us were eager to get this one on its way. The sun was out, hardly any wind, a whistle, and the skaters were on their way. A quick start by Barend caused some chaos in the front and only the faster skaters were able to hang on including Danielle.

Danielle who is the 2003 North American Long track Champion is back this summer, enjoying inline to wind down, but nevertheless her competive spirit made her part of the front pack. The phase was fairly quick, kept up by Physio fit winner Randy , and Time. It was a surprise to see Reg in the front pack, and hang on for a long time.

Due to a running race beginning to cause early runners to gather at the Duck pound, Chuck scared the living hell out of us when he blew a whistle to forewarn these people to clear the track, a heart stopper but effective.

At the end of the second lap the pack slimmed down quite a bit, and at the start of the last lap Barend and Chuck dropped off, but a minute later Randy's surge also caused RSM VP Gerry to drop. Tim and Randy battled it out till the finish with Tim taking the win.

Meanwhile a fight for third place erupted when Barend caught up to Gerry with about 1K to go. From there on none of the two wanted to take the lead, and the final sprint was initiated by Barend, when he looked back and saw Chuck not far behind coming on strong. The two skater approached the finish side by side in a full sprint with Barend crossing the line first.

The second pack contained the majority of the Female field, and hard pulls by Carla, Trudy and Mona caused the pack to brake up with about 700M to go. With Danielle taking First earlier, Trudy and Carla battled it out for second and third, the rest of the skaters followed.

Thanks to all the volunteers, Thanks for Jackie taking pictures and Gerry for the results. See you at RSM next 10K on July 19th.
