Frequently Asked Questions

How will the categories be set up?
There are 4 categories, Junior (new), Citizen, Advanced and Elite. The Junior Category will be for younger skaters, the cut-off age is under consideration, but will likely be around 14 years old as of 1/1/2003. The Citizen Category will be for beginner skaters with slower times, You are a "Citizen" level participant if your 5k/10K finish times are in excess of 12/26 minutes, respectively. You are considered Advanced or Elite if your finish times are under these times. Advanced & Elite are separate categories with separate prize brackets.

I'm under 14, can I race Advanced or Elite?
Juniors can race "up" in a tougher category if they like, however to keep these races safe for all participants, PLEASE RACE AT YOUR SKILL LEVEL. Late finishers may be asked to clear the course to allow the next event to begin. The decisions of the Race Officials are final. There are NO REFUNDS.

I used to race pro, but I had a long winter. Can I skate in the Advanced Category?
To keep these races fair and competitive for all participants, PLEASE RACE AT YOUR SKILL LEVEL. 'Blowout" race times may be disqualified or bumped upon a case by case basis. The decisions of the Race Officials are final. There are NO REFUNDS.

What is a "Combined" Award?
All skaters who skate two events in a category will be ranked and assigned points based on their overall finish placement, i.e. 1st place gets 1 point, 2nd place gets 2 points, etc. The Skater with the LOWEST total score will win the Combined Award for their category.

What is a "Team" Award?
A "Team" is defined as 4 skaters in the same category, with at least one female member. All Team members must skate two events in the same category. Similar to the Combined Award, team members will be ranked and assigned points based on their overall finish placement, i.e. 1st place gets 1 point, 2nd place gets 2 points, etc. The Team with the LOWEST total combined scores from ALL FOUR members will win the Team Award for their category.

What if it rains?
All events are Rain or Shine.
